FAQ
Questions we get asked often. If yours isn't here, hit us up on Instagram or TikTok.
What is Baseline NYC?
Baseline is an ecosystem for pre-label, independent music artists in NYC. We build tools, write long-form articles, and create resources that help committed artists grow together — no label, no gatekeepers, just craft.
Who is Baseline for?
Baseline is for independent musicians, bands, producers, and creatives in NYC who show up consistently, care about their craft, and want practical help navigating the business side of making art. If you're pre-label and committed, you're in the right place.
Is Baseline a label or management company?
No. Baseline is not a label, a management company, or a booking agency. We're a resource hub and community. We don't sign artists or take a cut of anything. We build the tools and knowledge that help you move independently.
What kind of tools do you offer?
We build free, high-utility tools designed for working artists. Right now that includes the Setlist Builder for planning live shows and rehearsal run-throughs, the Release Budget Planner for scoping the cost of your next single, EP, or album, and the Rehearsal Cost Calculator for budgeting your annual rehearsal spend. More tools are on the way — including gig revenue splitters, merch pricing calculators, and more.
What is Signal?
Signal is our editorial section — long-form articles, guides, and insights written for artists who want substance over hype. Topics range from rehearsal strategy and budgeting to independent release planning and creative discipline.
How do I get the free resources?
Head to the Resources page on our site. The NYC Rehearsal Studio Directory is live now — more templates, planners, and guides are on the way. All resources are free, no strings attached.
Will you spam me if I sign up?
Never. We send only when it matters — new resources, tools, and occasional updates with real value. No filler, no daily blasts, no selling your info. Unsubscribe anytime with one click.
How can I contribute or get involved?
We're always looking for artists, writers, and builders who want to contribute. If you have an idea for a tool, an article, or a resource that would help independent artists — reach out to us on Instagram or TikTok @baseline.nyc.
Is Baseline only for NYC artists?
Our roots are in NYC and a lot of our content speaks to the city's unique scene — rehearsal spaces, venue culture, the hustle of making it here. That said, most of what we build is useful for any independent artist, anywhere.
How often do you publish new content?
We publish new articles and resources regularly — quality over quantity. Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @baseline.nyc or join the newsletter to stay in the loop when new things drop.
How is Baseline funded?
Baseline is bootstrapped and independently funded. We don't take venture capital, we don't sell your data, and we don't run ads. Our goal is to build things that genuinely help artists — not to monetize attention. As we grow, we may explore sustainable revenue models, but never at the expense of the community.
Do I need to be a musician to use Baseline?
Baseline is built for anyone in the independent music ecosystem — musicians, producers, vocalists, managers, sound engineers, visual artists who work with bands, and anyone else helping independent artists move forward. If you care about the craft, you belong here.
Can I suggest a tool or feature?
Absolutely. We build based on what artists actually need. If you have an idea for a tool, a resource, or a feature that would make your life easier — DM us on Instagram or TikTok @baseline.nyc. Some of our best ideas have come directly from the community.
